N°1 — Infrastructure / Collaboration Bao'An International Airport
One of the largest airport projects of its decade, the Bao'An International Airport in Shenzhen was designed by Fuksas Architetto with Ilja Burchard as part of the design team. The terminal's continuous honeycomb skin creates a vast, fluid interior that blurs the boundary between structure and enclosure.

Structure as Surface
The terminal's defining move is its ceiling and wall system — a continuous field of hexagonal cells that covers over 500,000 square metres of interior space. The geometry is simultaneously structural, acoustic, and spatial: it absorbs the enormous scale of the building and breaks it into something the human eye can read at close range. Working as part of the Fuksas team, Ilja Burchard contributed to the development and resolution of this system across the building's full section.
